Box: a proposition for ten years 2012-2022

Once a year since 2013, Box (a proposition for ten years) for Commonwealth and Council has been exhibited with its contents (re-purposed fragments, writings, drawings, paintings, and sculptural elements) as they accumulate, transform, and grow. Through this time-based sculpture, Fernández fosters a relationship with the space by proposing a personalized exchange system. Within the exhibition, each year Fernández expands the box’s “contents,” which spill out of its space. The box itself has become a conceptual rather than physical container; it is a yearly ritual, an exercise in archival practice, a continuously growing index of a relationship.
